K & S

Katherine and Steve are two creative photographers who live in Exeter, Devon. We shoot mainly weddings as we like working together and love the variety a joy-filled wedding day brings. Our style is fresh, well composed and creative, no effects here just seeing a moment and photographing it well.

We'd been looking forward to Kim and Jonathan's wedding for a very long time and enjoyed one of the very few sunny days in January, unbelievable luck considering the shocking weather! The religious ceremony was held at a lovely chapel on site at the beautiful stately home wedding venue - Orchardleigh House in Somerset. It was such a lovely day to be a part of and here is a collection of some of our favourite photographs along with some details to give you a flavour of the day and evidence of the couples hard work and creativity. Scroll down for the full story behind this wedding...

Well what can I say - a whole lot of love and thought went into ‘making’ our wedding day – it really was a labour of love! I am a rather crafty so-in-so who spends many hours sat behind a sewing machine or making something, so to me it was only right that we handmade as much as we possibly could ourselves, from the Save the Dates to the Invitations, Buttonholes, table decorations, orders of service, table plan, bouquets...the list goes on and on! In fact, it would be easier to list the things we didn’t make! It was quite a big task, but we were really very lucky to have a totally awesome team of family and friends around us that were always on hand to help!

Groom's suit
Jonathan has had a slight obsession with Tweed for a couple of years now – so much so that it is a bit of a running joke amongst his friends! So it was only fitting that the boys wore Tweed suits. The Tweed worked so well and was absolutely perfect for Orchardleigh – we were so pleased. They were from Victor Valentine.

The Dress
My dress was Maggie Sottero from Pirouette, Exeter where I also found my veil and headdress. My lace jacket was completely custom made. It was made by a dear friend of mine (who I have known since I was very young - she used to be my Brownie leader) and my wonderful mum who spent many hours sewing on all of the gorgeous beads. It is so beautiful and something that I will treasure forever.

Shoes Sophia Webster! They were totally brilliant - I saw the shoes online but they were out if stock & they tracked down a pair for me!! :-)

The Bridesmaids
As it was January, the girls all had vintage stoles (all from Ebay), ankle boots (Office) and gloves to help to keep them warm, which looked so cute with their little lace dresses (ASOS). I loved how the different textures of the tweed, lace and fur worked so beautifully together! My sister’s dress (Ebony Rose from Pirouette, Exeter) gave a complete contrast in shape, colour and texture which I thought worked beautifully when they were all stood together :-D

Hair and Make-up
I am very fortunate that one of my bestest friends is a top notch Beauty Therapist and another is a totally amazing Hair Stylist! Not only are they both totally awesome at what they do and made us all look gorgeous, it was super special to spend my wedding morning with them and something I will remember forever :-D I couldn’t get over how chilled out we all were – there was no stress whatsoever which was unbelievable!

Hair: My darling Amie of ‘Amie Sawer Hair and Eyelash Extensions’

Make-up: My oldest friend in the World (who I have known since the day she was born as our parents have been friends since school too) Elly Coles, owner of ‘Revive Beauty and Hair Design’ in Crediton.

The Cake
Our beautiful cake was made by my mum’s Cousin (the crème de le crème when it comes to arts and crafts – she has spent many hours teaching me new crafty things since I was very young!). I don’t know how she did it but the pearls made from icing were a perfect match to the pearls hanging from the table decorations and the pearls in the Bridesmaids Bouquets! It was so beautiful and just what we wanted – absolutely perfect!

The Buttonholes
We made the buttonholes ourselves – my mum even grew the strawflowers and we spent the summer harvesting, wiring and drying them. It was so special :-D

The Bouquets
We made the bridesmaids bouquets ourselves. My mum made the pearl and bead pompoms that were at the heart of each bouquet, to match my brooch bouquet. I then arranged foam roses and the pompoms and bound them with ribbon and lace. My bridesmaids loved them and were delighted that they could keep them after the wedding! My button and brooch bouquet was made by 'Chasing Rubies', Etsy.

Table Decorations
The table decorations were a huge team effort and very labour intensive but so very worth it!! Jonathan and I spent many hours foraging around the fields finding ‘the best’ branches!! It wasn’t until a couple of weeks before the wedding (after we had hung all of the crystals and pearls from the branches) that we decided that the branches would look better painted with glitter – Jonathan had a very fun Saturday afternoon of painting (I think he was really cursing his football being called off!). We were so pleased with how they turned out – they were perfect!

Favours
We gave scented candles to the ladies which my sister and I made one Saturday afternoon. We made four different ‘flavours’; Gingerbread Man, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Vanilla Cupcake and Butterscotch Pudding – all of which smelt scrumptious and totally edible. :-) And the boys all had scratch cards in little hessian envelopes (which I made!) :-) Unfortunately out of 52 scratch cards there were no big winners – none that came forward anyhow!

Cookie Bar
We are so grateful to my sister’s fiancé and a very close family friend for making all of the cookies for the Cookie Bar – they were absolutely delicious and went down a storm :-D

For us, it was all totally about creating special memories, both on the day of wedding, but also on the lead up to it...and by jingo we most certainly did! The wonderful memories that we have created will last a lifetime, and we are so lucky that Katherine and Steve have captured them so beautifully, from all of the details that we spent hours making, to all of the magical moments on the day! We couldn’t be happier and we thank you both so much for everything!!!
